Welcome to our home away from home at the Old Sasco Mill in Westport, CT. This welcome book is intended to help you get acquainted with the area and our home. We’ve downloaded our area knowledge for you to enjoy! Favourite restaurants, golf courses, vineyards, and more. Along with our area guide you’ll also find everything you need to know about our home. You will find a bound copy of this guide in the home, which you are welcome to take out with you during your stay so you needn’t print this out.

Your home

Our studio apartment is located on the Westport/Southport line. Everything is newly renovated but has that historic rustic feel. There is plenty of space for an intimate getaway, or a small gathering with friends. It is well equipped with modern amenities with Wi-Fi for connecting to the world and even more opportunities to disconnect as needed.

Check-in time is 4pm. We can sometimes arrange an early check-in so please contact us if you plan on arriving early and we’ll do our best—no promises! We suggest you refer to the section on what to do if you arrive early, as there is plenty to keep you entertained.

PARKING

We have two parking lots. One is next to the building, and the other across the bridge past the waterfall.

OVERVIEW OF THE AREA

Both Southport and Westport are quaint New England coastal towns, with all the charms that this implies. The downtown areas have great shops and places to eat.

Admittedly, it would be easy to hide away here for a week or more, without making much contact with anyone other than the swans and egrets. That being said, this area is also rich in foodie and entertainment options.

Food: From pasta to pizzas, seafood to sushi, barbecue to burgers, and way beyond, you’d be hard-pressed not to find something for everyone, just blocks from the apartment.

Brews: There is also a major movement of local area microbrews, available in and around Fairfield, for those in need of adult beverages.

Tunes: There is plenty of great live music and entertainment at the Fairfield Theatre Company and the Quick Center (Fairfield University), and one of the state’s best weekly open mic night at the Acoustic Cafe in Black Rock.

We are very close to great attractions like Bridgeport Bluefish Baseball, the Fairfield Museum and History Center, the Beardsley Zoo, the Discovery Museum, and The Maritime Aquarium at Norwalk. All within minutes of our home!

Additionally, our apartment is located 1.5 miles from Metro North. Which means planning a day trip to New York City is very convenient.

When you leave, please ensure the following simple tasks are done:

  1. Ensure the air-conditioner are turned off
  2. Wash dishes
  3. Take Garbage to trash bin at back of building
  4. Lock the door

CHECK-OUT TIME

Check-out time is strictly 11am. Should you require a later checkout we will do our best but you need to let us know beforehand. If we have guests arriving that day it will be almost impossible to offer a late check-out due to the cleaners needing to prepare for those guests.

CLEANING

You will find the apartment clean on arrival but please let us know if you are not satisfied. For stays of 1 week there is no cleaning service. After you depart our cleaners will perform that for the next guest. If you are here for two weeks there will be one clean, usually on the middle Saturday. They have a key and will access the house at some point during the day, but not before 10am. If you need a cleaning service more often, please let us know and we will arrange this. An extra payment will apply. On departure it would be helpful if you could leave the apartment (particularly kitchen contents) clean and tidy when you leave. No need for you to perform a full clean!

CHECK-OUT TIME

Check-out time is strictly 10am. Should you require a later check-out, we will do our best to accommodate. Again, no promises. But you need to let us know as far in advance as possible. If we have guests arriving that day it will be almost impossible to offer flexibility due to cleaning crews requirements and timing.

CLEANING

You will find the house clean on arrival—please let us know if you are not satisfied in any way. We take great pride in providing our guests with the highest standard of cleanliness and hygiene. For stays of 1 week there is no cleaning service during your stay. After you depart our cleaners will prepare the house for the next guest.

AIR CONDITIONING

The apartment has central air-conditioning. You can adjust the temperatures manually, using the tablet or ask Alexa to set them for you!

The apartment has a central heating system. You can adjust the temperatures manually, using the tablet or ask Alexa to set them for you!

KITCHEN EQUIPMENT

Our kitchen is small but is well equipped. We have an oven and four burner stove top. There is a small fridge with small freezer area for ice. Of course, there is a microwave, toaster, and coffee maker. We will provide tea, coffee, filters, sugar, and creamer. You will find basic condiments for you to prepare intimate meals for two or four people. We don’t have a dishwasher.

LAUNDRY APPLIANCES

We have a washer and separate dryer located in the lower level of the building. You will find directions for access to the laundry room on the desk. There is a supply of detergent for your use. To operate the machines, simply select the program you want, place the detergent in the tray, close the door, and hit start. If in any doubt there are instructions next to the machines.

TRAVEL CRIB AND HIGH CHAIR

We can provide (upon request) a travel crib and high chair.

The sofa bed can be used easily for additional guests.

Tablet

We have a tablet (located on charger by kitchen area) for turning on/off lights, setting temperature, and locking the door.

To set temperature, lights, and door, simply press Home button (lower middle) and you will see screen with a “house” icon. Select this icon, and the Wink menu will come up. Use the menu to perform the function you desire.

BOARD GAMES / PLAYING CARDS

There is a small assortment of Board Games in the dresser by the bed.

We have Books! An assortment can be found throughout the apartment for your enjoyment

BREAKAGES

We understand that sometimes accidents happen! Should you break anything please let us know immediately – if it’s minor we usually won’t charge. If it’s a larger issue (e.g. the TV screen!) we would like to agree the cost with you before you leave to avoid any issues later. Thank you!

MUSIC SYSTEM

Our apartment is equipped with the Amazon Alexa. You can play all your favourite Amazon music stations. Or play music from an assortment of Pandora or Sonos stations we have set up.

TELEVISION

The apartment has a large screen smart TV. The TV has cable and it also is equipped with the Amazon Fire Stick. This allows you to stream great movies and shows.

ALEXA

We have installed the Amazon Alexa in all of our locations. This allows you to listen to your favourite Amazon music stations, as well as Pandora, and Sonos. Alexa will also set the thermostat temperature, turn on/off certain lights and lock the door. In addition, Alexa has a Concierge skill. This allows you to ask questions about the home and the Fairfield area. All of our home features are set up on a tablet. The tablet will also have this manual on it.

PETS
We consider pets part of the family. That is why they are welcome at all of our properties. Like many members of families, some require a “bit more” looking after than others. We ask that you responsibly take advantage of this accommodation.
