OVERVIEW OF THE AREA
Mystic, CT is a small town on the Connecticut shore, with a big reputation. The town itself, divided by a small tidal estuary that opens to the Mystic River, is compact. Contemporary life on land and on the water chugs along in tandem with buildings and scenery reminiscent of life in the 1830s. Big attractions are Mystic Seaport, a busy living history museum that replicates that town’s ship-building culture of the 19th century, and Mystic Aquarium, enhanced by a close relationship with the work of Doctor Robert Ballard, the ocean scientist who discovered the Titanic. All around Mystic are perfectly beautiful country drives, both inland and along the shore. And, just 10 miles up the road, is the world-famous Foxwoods Casino, if you’re feeling lucky.

Some of the top attractions in Mystic are:

The Mystic Seaport
The Mystic Aquarium
The Mystic Bascule Drawbridge
Historic Downtown Mystic shopping

Three of the four attractions above are within a short walk from our house. The Mystic Aquarium is just a five-minute drive. There are also several top notch wineries within 10 miles of our house (three within 5 miles).

CHECK-OUT PROCESS

When you leave, please ensure the following simple tasks are completed:

  1. Take the rubbish out to the bins
  2. Ensure the air-conditioners are turned off
  3. Run the dishwasher
  4. Lock the house
  5. Leave the key in the basket on radiator by door.

We hope you had a wonderful holiday and wish you safe travels back home. We’d love to see you again next year

CHECK-OUT TIME

Check-out time is strictly 10am. Should you require a later check-out, we will do our best to accommodate. Again, no promises. But you need to let us know as far in advance as possible. If we have guests arriving that day it will be almost impossible to offer flexibility due to cleaning crews requirements and timing.

CLEANING

You will find the house clean on arrival—please let us know if you are not satisfied in any way. We take great pride in providing our guests with the highest standard of cleanliness and hygiene. For stays of 1 week there is no cleaning service during your stay. After you depart our cleaners will prepare the house for the next guest.

If you are here for two weeks there will be one cleaning, usually on the middle Saturday. The team has a key and will access the house at some point during the day, but not before 10am. If you need cleaning services more often, please let us know and we will arrange this. An extra payment will apply. On departure it would be helpful if you could
leave the house (particularly kitchen contents and bbq/grill) clean and tidy.

No need for you to perform a full cleaning — we’ve got you covered

AIR CONDITIONING
As we are so close to the water, you will find the cool breezes refreshing. However, on those rare days where air conditioning is a must, we have installed units in various locations for your comfort. They are self-explanatory and easy to use.

CENTRAL HEATING

Our home uses “good old reliable” radiators to supply heat (this is a historic home). The thermostat is located on the first floor in the living area (near the Captain Portrait). The radiators will keep you warm and toasty in the coldest weather. You can set the thermostat manually or ask Alexa. The command is: Alexa, set temperature for seventy degrees.”

Manual Setting

COTTAGE HEATING / COOLING
We will have an A/C Unit during the summer months. There is a thermostat in the cottage.

“Flip” open right side door on cottage thermostat to set temperature up or down

KITCHEN EQUIPMENT
All manuals for the electrical equipment and appliances are in the middle draw of the unit to the left of the sink.

The Dishwasher:
It’s very simple, we promise! We provide a supply of tablets—you need only to insert one into the flip box container on the inside of the dishwasher door. Then press the program button of your choice . There are a few basic settings. Then press the start button and you’re good to go.

The Fridge/freezer:
You should not need to adjust any settings. If you run into any difficulties (e.g. it’s not cooling efficiently) please let us know.

The Hob and Oven:
The hob is a five burner gas range, and the electric oven and grill is double width. When grilling please leave the door open.

LAUNDRY APPLIANCES
We have a washer and separate dryer located in the basement. The door is in the kitchen. There is a supply of detergent for your use. To operate the machines, simply select the program you want, place the detergent in the tray, close the door, and hit start. If in any doubt there are instructions next to the machines.

BOARD GAMES / PLAYING CARDS
We have board games (under the TV) for your enjoyment.

BOOKS
You will find a wonderful collection of books throughout the house. I have chosen some of my favorites.

BREAKAGES
We understand that sometimes accidents happen! Should you break anything please let us know immediately—if it’s minor we usually won’t charge. If it’s a larger issue (e.g. the TV screen!) we would like to agree on cost with you before you leave to avoid any issues later. Thank you!

ALEXA
We have recently installed an Alexa system for your enjoyment. As many of you will be familiar with using Alexa, this should be a nice little plus to your stay. You can ask Alexa to play any of the amazing Amazon Prime music stations (Baroque, Classical, Jazz, etc.). The speaker is Sonos, so the sound quality should be great. This will work in the living area. There is also a Concierge system with Alexa. I have included some instructions at the end of the book. You can ask questions about the home, or the area (restaurants, attractions, etc.).

MUSIC SYSTEM
For your listening pleasure, we have provided a wireless Bluetooth speaker that pairs with any of your smart devices. The sound is great, and it goes anywhere in the house that you choose. You can also ask Alexa to play music. We have Amazon Prime, so you will find music to fit your mood.

TELEVISION / AMAZON FIRE STICK
Even though Mystic is filled with great things to do night and day, everyone needs some “downtime” to relax. We have a large screen smart TV to help. There is cable service with access to Netflix, YouTube, Hulu, etc. Additionally, we have the Amazon Fire Stick to stream great movies and shows.

BED LINEN / TOWELS
We have extra linens and towels in the 2nd floor closet.

GARBAGE DISPOSAL & RECYCLING
Garbage cans and recycling bin are located on the east side of the house.  Please use the yellow Town of Stonington trash bags.

WHAT TO DO IN CASE OF A POWER OUTAGE
We have flashlights in each bedroom and one in the kitchen. We also have emergency lights in several outlets around the home (including cottage). Should power go out, they will light up.  You can remove them and use them as a flashlight.

BEACH/ RECREATION EQUIPMENT
Kayaks:
You can launch just a few steps away at the boat launch ramp in the Mystic River. Kayak to lunch in downtown Mystic anyone?!

Bikes:
We have bikes for your riding pleasure. Mystic and the surrounding area is coastal New England at its best.

CHAIRS / TABLES
We have outside chairs and table on the back-deck area and chairs on the front porch where you have a beautiful view of the Mystic River and all the activities.

GRILL / BBQ
We have a BBQ Grill (propane) for those days you wish to enjoy the historic ambiance of the house rather than dine out.

MUSIC SYSTEM
Our Bluetooth speaker sounds great outside! The Alexa system will play any choice of music you desire. Just ask her! This is separate from our wonderful Bluetooth speaker, so you can have great music outside and separate music inside.
